On May 22nd, Google announced a visual redesign for its Google Search mobile results.
The update changes how organic & PPC results are displayed to searchers.
Google explained, “Our goal with Search always has been to help people quickly and easily find the information that they’re looking for.”
Organic results will now feature the name of each website & company favicon at the top of the results card. Google describe this visual design as enabling searchers to better understand search results, “a website’s branding can be front and center, helping you better understand where the information is coming from and what pages have what you’re looking for.”
To assist companies & how their brand appears in organic search results, Google have provided guidelines about how to choose their preferred favicon. You can find the guidelines at Google's support page.
Additionally, PPC results are now signposted with a black bolded ad label at the top of the card alongside the web address.
This replaces the previous green “Ad” box identifier.
But does this make paid results clearer to searchers or do they blend into the organic search results more? Time will tell & click through rates should be monitored & compared to assess the impact of the redesign.
